Restoran Sin Kee in Brickfields, right across KL Sentral and Pos Express serves good food and has a wide array of dishes to choose from. One can choose to eat ala carte meals or order dishes to share, just like in any Chinese restaurants.

Restoran Sin Kee’s Curry Pork Ribs Rice

The Curry Pork Ribs Rice is heavenly — the pork is so succulent and the curry is even better than those you eat in the prison. If you are a late comer during lunch hour, you’ll feel sorry for not coming earlier as it is easily snapped up by the hungry working people. And yes, just like many of its other ala carte meals, Curry Pork Ribs Rice have limited orders each day.

Restoran Sin Kee’s Fried Rice

The Fried Rice is just as good as most items available on the menu. Fried Rice comes with Chinese sausage (Lup Cheong), bits of Luncheon Pork meat, eggs, onions and prawns. I’ll have to say this is one of the best Chinese Fried Rice I have ever eaten.

Restoran Sin Kee also has tonnes of other items on its extensive menu and it’s a no wonder that it is usually fully-packed during lunch hour.

Price

Hakka Restaurant, located along Jalan Kia Peng has been a sight most of the KL lites cannot ignore. Hakka Restaurant has been in existence for 43 years with its first branch started in Sungei Wang Plaza.

Hakka Restaurant’s Herbal Chicken

The Herbal Chicken is quite succulent and yet pleasant to eat.

Hakka Restaurant’s Assam Fish

Assam Fish is delectable — not too sour, not too spicy, just the right taste.

Hakka Restaurant’s Tofu

The Tofu is however quite bland and ordinary.

Hakka Restaurant’s Sweet & Sour Pork

The Sweet & Sour Pork is crispy and quite juicy.

Hakka Restaurant’s Vegetable

The Vegetable is surprisingly not too salty despite the existence of the salted duck egg.

Hakka Restaurant’s Dessert

Lastly, the Dessert which consists of mangoes, watermelon and honey dew is fresh and juicy.

Even though the food in Hakka Restaurant is top-rated, somehow it’s still overrated and too pricey. Perhaps, Hakka Restaurant is more suitable for weddings and dinner functions. Otherwise, there are many other Chinese restaurants that are better in every sense.

Price

Five dishes and dessert, serving for 10 persons – RM 183.60

Peng Heong’s Famous Pai Kut (Fried Pork Ribs) is the talk of the town and is indeed delicious. The pork ribs are fried twice to ensure the crispiness and it even tastes like chicken. It’s aromatic and one of the best fried pork ribs I have ever tried.

Peng Heong’s Bean Sprouts

Peng Heong’s Bean Sprouts is aromatic and crispy too, just like the pork ribs.

For four plates of rice with two additional bowls of rice, two plates of fried pork ribs, a plate of bean sprouts and a bottle of soya bean, it costs only RM 31, good enough for four person.

Restoran Chao Zhou (Teochew Restaurant) is quite popular with its dim sum and is usually crowded on a Sunday morning with many families filling up the tables longing for its fresh, hot and delicious dim sum.

Restoran Chao Zhou’s range of Dim Sum

Restoran Chao Zhou does not have a really wide range of dim sum but it is sufficient enough. The dim sum here are fresh and hot but gets cold quickly inside the air-conditioned restaurant as the place is quite small. Instead, one should have the dim sum in the outdoor area of the restaurant.

Restoran Chao Zhou’s Deep Fried Stuffed Yam

Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant is located just above Seoul Garden, a Korean BBQ/Steamboat restaurant.

The interior of Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant looks stunning and the ambiance is just great.

Szechuan ‘Dan Dan’ Noodles

Szechuan ‘Dan Dan’ Noodles or ‘Dan Dan’ Mee is spicy and sour like most Szechuan food but somewhat it lacks the authentic Szechuan flavor.

Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles

Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles is the one and only item on the item that is not spicy. After all, it stated ‘Beijing’ and not ‘Szechuan’. Somehow, Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles is quite sour and tastes awful.

Ants Climbing a Tree

Ants Climbing a Tree is a unique name for a bowl of glass noodles. Despite the weird name, this dish tastes so much better than the other two. It is spicy, yet delectable and at the same time, very filling.

Shredded Pork with Chili Bean & Garlic Noodles

Shredded Pork with Chili Bean & Garlic Noodles is not that bad with pieces of shredded pork mixed with chili bean. It is quite spicy though. If you don’t like spicy food, this is not for you. In fact, Szechuan food is totally not for you, if you can’t take spicy food.

White Coffee (Cold)

White Coffee (Cold) is somewhat lacking something. Perhaps, not the best to go with the spicy Szechuan food.

Iced Peach Tea

Iced Peach Tea is refreshing as it quenches the thirst for eating Szechuan food.

Overall, Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant is not too bad for serving authentic Szechuan food despite the lack of authentic Szechuan flavor in some of the dishes. After all, Szechuan cuisine has four different styles separated by locations. The service is quite good, maybe because it was mid-afternoon on a relaxing Sunday, which otherwise could be different during the night.
