Penang Nyonya’s Spring Rolls

Spring Rolls or “Popiah” in Malay, is usually fried to perfection and is a great delicacy. Spring Rolls at Penang Nyonya is no difference — it is crispy, delicious and served hot albeit a little oily.

Penang Nyonya’s Nyonya Nasi Lemak

Chicken Beef Set consists of a plate of rice (selection of either Briyani or Lemak), chicken or beef dishes, appetizer, dessert and a drink. Surprisingly, my selection of Lemak rice ends up the same as what my partner ordered — Nyonya Nasi Lemak and Penang Chicken Curry. I have to say the Nyonya Nasi Lemak is a disappointment. There is really nothing to shout about.

Penang Nyonya’s Penang Curry Chicken

Penang Curry Chicken is quite mediocre. It’s oily, the curry does not have enough santan and flavor and doesn’t seem to look appetizing.

Penang Nyonya’s Cendol

Cendol is perhaps the worst of the worst item on the menu. First off, the cendol does not come with red beans. This is the first time I eat cendol without red beans and I must say it is not very pleasing at all. There are tonnes of places that serve better cendol than here. In fact, all of them have better cendol and it is quite a disappointment to know Klang has a place which serves Penang Nyonya food has one of the worst cendol in the country, knowing that Klang also has one of the best cendols in Malaysia.

Overall, Penang Nyonya would be the last place on earth we would go to, ever. There are plenty of other restaurants in AEON Bukit Tinggi which serve better food at a better fare, why bother coming here?

Kim Gary’s Fried Pork Chop with Shanghai Style Vegetable Rice

Kim Gary Restaurant’s Fried Pork Chop with Shanghai Style Vegetable Rice served with Shanghai Style Soya Sauce is quite hearty and is one of the few dishes that is not oily. The fried pork chop is succulent and it is surprisingly satisfying.

Kim Gary’s Hot and Spicy Noodles with Pork Chop in "Typhoon Shelter" Style

Hot and Spicy Noodles with Pork Chop in "Typhoon Shelter" Style is served in a huge bowl like in most Japanese restaurants. However, the noodles portion is extremely small compared to the bean sprouts, which occupied half the bowl. The curry is indeed spicy but there’s really nothing special about this.

Kim Gary’s Coffee in Hong Kong Style (Cold)

Coffee in Hong Kong Style (Cold) is quite mediocre compared to the coffee joints. Even though it’s only RM 2.80, I would prefer Oldtown White Coffee anytime. Furthermore, OLDTOWN White Coffee is only RM 3.20.

Oldtown White Coffee’s Curry Chicken Sticky Rice

Curry Chicken Sticky Rice is quite nice and less oily compared to the glutinous rice in Meals. On the contrary, the curry chicken is quite oily and less satisfying.

Oldtown White Coffee’s OLDTOWN Nasi Rendang Chicken

As usual, OLDTOWN Nasi Rendang Chicken is up to par as it is one of OLDTOWN’s signature dish. Somehow, it is pricier than the Nasi Rendang Chicken at Bandar Bukit Tinggi. Maybe they have raised their price.

Oldtown White Coffee’s Mocha White Coffee (Cold)

Mocha White Coffee is satisfying like most of the white coffee in the café.

Oldtown White Coffee’s OLDTOWN White Coffee (Hot)

OLDTOWN White Coffee (Hot) is the original Ipoh Old Town White Coffee and it’s just satiating I could drink this everyday.

Black Canyon Coffee Restaurant’s Teriyaki Chicken Sauce

Teriyaki Chicken Steak which consists of grilled chicken breast served with Black Canyon’s teriyaki sauce, french fries, potato salad and toast is a wholesome meal, and it is more than satiating. Somehow, it is a bit oily.

Black Canyon Coffee Restaurant’s Chicken Green Curry Rice

Chicken Green Curry Rice is quite special. It’s not the kind of fried rice you normally have. Instead, the rice is stir-fried with a special green curry sauce and chicken. The Chicken Green Curry Rice is appetizing but the boiled egg that comes together is cold, straight from the refrigerator.

Black Canyon Coffee Restaurant’s Mexican Iced Coffee

Mexican Iced Coffee is the type of coffee pure gourmet coffee lover would love. With nutty soft taste, the drink is also refreshing from the cooling ice and Kahlua Syrup. It is said that Mexican iced coffee is an excellent drink, especially after dinner as it aids digestion.

Black Canyon Coffee Restaurant’s Blackpuccino

Blackpuccino, unlike the name, is not dark cappuccino but is an Espresso drink. It is a frozen blended coffee topped with creamy milk. It is absolutely tantalizing and a delicious drink.

Overall, the food at Black Canyon Coffee Restaurant is above the par, the restaurant has a great ambiance and there is a wide variety of food to choose from. The coffee is Black Canyon’s specialities and you’ll also have trouble choosing the drink from the menu because Black Canyon has a whole menu just for coffee and tea.

KFC’s Hotrods

I have to admit KFC Hotrods is pretty good — the boneless fried chicken is effortless and ready to eat, it’s not as oily and it’s succulent. However, the KFC Hotrods is not as pretty as the advertisement. In fact, the chicken is not nearly as rounded as the one featured in the advertisement.

Worse still, we were made to wait for at least 20 minutes in KFC Aeon Bukit Tinggi. Perhaps, it’s the negligence of the staff because we saw other customers who came after us received their Hotrods before us. This is not the first time, Malaysian restaurant gives us a bad impression — another restaurant in AEON Bukit Tinggi have earlier gave me us really bad experience.

Our orders arrive quite late despite being one of the first few customers. My dad ordered Spicy Olio Pasta but it only arrived after nearly an hour. By then, my dad has already lost his patience and left the restaurant. I do not understand why it needs to take an hour to prepare a plate of pasta and I do not know why Dome does not practice first-come-first-served basis. Shortage of staff should never be an excuse. The staff should have nicely explain the lengthy duration they need to prepare the pasta instead of making the customers wait. Perhaps, Dome Cafe in AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang has never experienced this high turnout of customers on regular days. What’s worse, it didn’t even has a restaurant manager.

Worst of all, it was a dinner my sister has planned to treat the family for mom’s 50th birthday — which in the end, turned out as one of the most dismal experiences I ever had. We vowed not to ever return to Dome Cafe in AEON Bukit Tinggi Shopping Centre.

Anyways, below are my review of the food we had.

Dome’s Spicy Chicken Mushroom Pasta

Dome’s Spicy Chicken Mushroom Pasta is the first dish to arrive. It is good enough, at least, my mom and sister manage to finish them.

Dome’s Grilled Chicken Turmeric

Meanwhile, Dome’s Grilled Chicken in Creamy Turmeric Sauce is quite blatant. Despite the chicken being marinated with herbs and the so-called creamy turmeric sauce, I found the dish quite blatant and almost tasteless. Maybe the chef did not put his mind to the dish when preparing it.

Please don’t bother to visit Dome Cafe in AEON Bukit Tinggi Klang. There are many other choices available in AEON Bukit Tinggi Shopping Centre in Klang.

Mee Siam with Honey Chicken is marvelous as it is unusual to pair off mee siam with a sweet dish like honey chicken. However, with honey chicken sweetness, saltiness and spiciness of the mee siam, Mee Siam with Honey Chicken is really satiating.

Nyonya Colors’ Yellow Curry Laksa

Meanwhile, Yellow Curry Laksa is uniquely in yellow (like the name of the dish) and consists of pumpkins!

Nyonya Colors’ Fresh Lime + Sour Plum

Fresh Lime + Sour Plum is good to go with the delicious nyonya food in Nyonya Colors.

Häagen-Dazs’ Brownie Explosion is a delightful dessert. A decadent Chocolate brownie, served with scoops of Chocolate Midnight Cookies and Cookies & Cream ice-cream, draped in indulgent chocolate sauce — it is irresistible and simply the best thing to satisfy anyone’s taste buds.
