Fried Pork Ribs (Paikut) – Restoran Peng Heong Hakka Paikut @ Klang

Restoran Peng Heong Hakka Paikut in Klang is quite popular with its paikut (pork ribs). Even Ho Chak! once featured this restaurant.

Peng Heong's Famous Pai Kut or Fried Pork Ribs
Peng Heong’s Famous Pai Kut or Fried Pork Ribs

Peng Heong’s Famous Pai Kut (Fried Pork Ribs) is the talk of the town and is indeed delicious. The pork ribs are fried twice to ensure the crispiness and it even tastes like chicken. It’s aromatic and one of the best fried pork ribs I have ever tried.

Peng Heong's Bean Sprouts
Peng Heong’s Bean Sprouts

Peng Heong’s Bean Sprouts is aromatic and crispy too, just like the pork ribs.

For four plates of rice with two additional bowls of rice, two plates of fried pork ribs, a plate of bean sprouts and a bottle of soya bean, it costs only RM 31, good enough for four person.

Price

  • Fried Pork Ribs – RM 6 – RM 20
  • Bean Sprouts – RM 6 – RM 8
  • Soya Bean – RM 2

Address

Restoran Peng Heong Hakka Paikut,
2, Lorong Gudang Nanas,

Breakfast Set – Meals Station @ Wisma UOA II

Meals Station serves wonderful breakfast sets, part of them replicate from the existing menu.

For RM 5.90, you get to choose Nasi Lemak, Fried Meehoon, Mini Bowl Meals Curry Noodles, Egg/Tuna Sandwich or Toast and Eggs, and you also get to pick from either Milk Tea or White Coffee (both hot).

Meals Station's Mini Bowl of Meals Curry Noodles
Meals Station’s Mini Bowl of Meals Curry Noodles

Meals Station’s Mini Bowl of Meals Curry Noodle, as the name says, is the mini version of Meals Curry Noodles. This is largely due to the fact, Meals Curry Noodles costs RM 7.90 and the breakfast set costs RM 5.90, therefore, they have to slash the size of the bowl as well. But, seriously, the mini version is good enough for breakfast.

Meals Station's Egg Sandwich
Meals Station’s Egg Sandwich

Perhaps, the biggest rip off are the sandwiches as I cannot see how anyone will get satiated from the two pieces of breads cut into four tiny triangles. What’s worse, it costs the same as the other sets.

Price

  • Breakfast Set – RM 5.90
  • Choose from: Nasi Lemak, Fried Bihun, Mini Bowl Meals Curry Noodle, Egg/Tuna Sandwich or Toast and Eggs + Milk Tea or White Coffee

Address

Penang Cuisine – Mee Jawa, Food Republic @ Pavilion KL

Mee Jawa stall in Pavilion’s Food Republic is often neglected by customers as it is located far at the back behind John King and besides Pan Mee stall.

Mee Jawa's Mee Jawa
Mee Jawa’s Mee Jawa

Mee Jawa as its name suggested, is famous with its Javanese noodles, or Mee Jawa in Bahasa Malaysia. The plate of Mee Jawa is huge as you can see from the picture comparative with the sppon and chopstick. Its taste is somehow rather mediocre and besides its humongous plate, there’s nothing really to shout about. Still, it’s better than Mee Jawa at Oldtown.

Mee Jawa's Curry Laksa
Mee Jawa’s Curry Laksa

Curry Laksa, on the other hand, is pleasant to eat, although I have to say its incredible hard to find one that’s as good as you can get from Penang.

Maybe Mee Jawa should be neglected, not just because of its location but of its food.

Price

  • Mee Jawa – RM 8.50
  • Curry Laksa – RM 7.20

Address

McDonald's Menu Around the World

McDonald’s all over the world but did you know almost every country has at least one item on its menu that is different from the rest of the world?

Nasi Rendang Chicken – Oldtown White Coffee @ Bandar Bukit Tinggi

Oldtown White Coffee in Bandar Bukit Tinggi may be a new establishment but the brand is not. Oldtown White Coffee is well-known for its white coffee but there are more than that than just white coffees.

OLDTOWN Nasi Rendang Chicken
OLDTOWN Nasi Rendang Chicken

OLDTOWN Nasi Rendang Chicken is one of its signature dish, and I have to say it is quite good it exceeds my expectation. However, at RM 8.50, the price is quite steep.

Javanese Mee
Javanese Mee

Javanese Mee is quite mediocre and ordinary and there is no reason to order it unless they run out of everything on their extensive menu.

Hazelnut White Coffee
Hazelnut White Coffee

Hazelnut White Coffee is mild and I have to say I prefer to original OLDTOWN White Coffee.

Blackcurrant Yogurt Smoothies
Blackcurrant Yogurt Smoothies

Blackcurrant Yogurt Smoothies is something new and refreshing. Perhaps OLDTOWN is trying to follow the footsteps of Starbucks as it is trying to create new drinks other than coffee.

Price

  • OLDTOWN Nasi Rendang Chicken – RM 8.50
  • Javanese Mee – RM 5.80
  • Hazelnut White Coffee (Cold) – RM 4.20
  • Blackcurrant Yogurt Smoothies – RM 6.30

Set Lunch – Pakcik Cafe @ Kompleks Antarabangsa

The Nyonya food in Pakcik Cafe @ Kompleks Antarabangsa is quite decent. Now, Pakcik Cafe has introduced some set lunch in order to attract more customers. Its set lunch include the main meal, usually rice or noodles and a glass of drink (choose between barley, cincau or bottled water).

Pakcik Cafe's Fish Fillet with Butter Sauce with Rice
Pakcik Cafe’s Fish Fillet with Butter Sauce with Rice

Fish Fillet with Butter Sauce with Rice is unexpectedly delicious. Usually, we get butter chicken, but butter fish? Surprisingly good.

Pakcik Cafe's Potato Chicken with Rice
Pakcik Cafe’s Potato Chicken with Rice

Potato Chicken with Rice is a decent dish especially if you love potatoes. The chicken tastes quite pleasing.

Pakcik Cafe's Cincau and Barley
Pakcik Cafe’s Cincau and Barley

The Cincau and Barley comes with the set. You can also opt for bottled water if you want. The Cincau is quite alright but the Barley? Taste like they have added too much water in it.

Price

  • Fish Fillet with Butter Sauce – RM 9.70
  • Potato Chicken – RM 8.80

Cheese Baked Rice – Chatterbox @ Bangsar Village I, Bangsar Baru

Chatterbox hk in Bangsar Village I in Bangsar Baru is yet another HK "char chan teng" and has been established since Bangsar Village I was opened way back in 2005. Like other "char chan teng" which serves Hong Kong food, Chatterbox also serves Cheese Baked Rice among others.

Chatterbox's Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop in Italian Red Sauce
Chatterbox’s Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop in Italian Red Sauce

Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop in Italian Red Sauce is one of the best items on the menu. The chicken meat is tender and yet fresh while the rice is cooked to perfection.

Chatterbox's Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop in Italian Red Sauce
Chatterbox’s Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop in Italian Red Sauce

Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop in Italian Red Sauce is as good as the Chicken Chop, even the pork meat is so tender, it almost tastes like chicken!

Chatterbox's Ying Yong (Cold)
Chatterbox’s Ying Yong (Cold)

Ying Yong (Cold) tastes almost similar like other kopitiam.

Chatterbox's Lemon Tea (Hot)
Chatterbox’s Lemon Tea (Hot)

Lemon Tea (Hot) is hot but refreshing.

One thing that would bring me here again is probably the difference between Chatterbox and the other kopitiam — it is much peaceful and quiet dining in Chatterbox compared to similar type of "char chan teng". Others have ambiance almost like a night market.

Price

  • Cheese Baked Rice with Chicken Chop in Italian Red Sauce – RM 13.90
  • Cheese Baked Rice with Pork Chop in Italian Red Sauce – RM 13.90
  • Ying Yong (Cold) – RM 3.80

Pork Noodles – Restoran Cheong Hua @ Brickfields

Restoran Cheong Hua, which is more well-known for its Char Kuey Teow also serves good pork noodles.

Restoran Cheong Hua's Soup Pork Noodles
Restoran Cheong Hua’s Soup Pork Noodles

Soup Pork Noodles is good especially during rainy season as it is hot and tasty. The noodles come with a mixture of different type of pork meat and has a lot of vegetables.

Restoran Cheong Hua's Dry Pork Noodles
Restoran Cheong Hua’s Dry Pork Noodles

The Dry Pork Noodles is almost the same like Soup Pork Noodles except the noodles are separated in a plate with soy sauce.

Both the dry and the soup version are quite mediocre even though the price is still okay for KL standard.
