Szechuan Food – Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant @ Auto City, Penang

Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant, as the name says serves Szechuan food and is located in Auto City, the infamous landmark in Prai, Penang for good selections of auto brands and of course, great food.

Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant is located just above Seoul Garden, a Korean BBQ/Steamboat restaurant.

The interior of Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant looks stunning and the ambiance is just great.

Szechuan 'Dan Dan' Noodles
Szechuan ‘Dan Dan’ Noodles

Szechuan ‘Dan Dan’ Noodles or ‘Dan Dan’ Mee is spicy and sour like most Szechuan food but somewhat it lacks the authentic Szechuan flavor.

Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles
Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles

Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles is the one and only item on the item that is not spicy. After all, it stated ‘Beijing’ and not ‘Szechuan’. Somehow, Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles is quite sour and tastes awful.

Ants Climbing a Tree
Ants Climbing a Tree

Ants Climbing a Tree is a unique name for a bowl of glass noodles. Despite the weird name, this dish tastes so much better than the other two. It is spicy, yet delectable and at the same time, very filling.

Shredded Pork with Chili Bean & Garlic Noodles
Shredded Pork with Chili Bean & Garlic Noodles

Shredded Pork with Chili Bean & Garlic Noodles is not that bad with pieces of shredded pork mixed with chili bean. It is quite spicy though. If you don’t like spicy food, this is not for you. In fact, Szechuan food is totally not for you, if you can’t take spicy food.

White Coffee (Cold)
White Coffee (Cold)

White Coffee (Cold) is somewhat lacking something. Perhaps, not the best to go with the spicy Szechuan food.

Iced Peach Tea
Iced Peach Tea

Iced Peach Tea is refreshing as it quenches the thirst for eating Szechuan food.

Overall, Jiu Jiu Szechuan Restaurant is not too bad for serving authentic Szechuan food despite the lack of authentic Szechuan flavor in some of the dishes. After all, Szechuan cuisine has four different styles separated by locations. The service is quite good, maybe because it was mid-afternoon on a relaxing Sunday, which otherwise could be different during the night.

  • Special Beijing Bean Sauce Noodles – RM 12.80

Wantan Noodles – Kedai Koon Kee @ Petaling Street

Once very famous for its Wantan Noodles, Koon Kee is now pretty quiet and isolated. Koon Kee is well-known for its Wantan Noodles. Located in the midst of Petaling Street (Chinatown), Koon Kee is not exactly easy to find. It is hidden behind the throng of stalls in one of the intersections of Petaling Street.

Koon Kee's Wantan Noodles
Koon Kee’s Wantan Noodles

Although it’s slightly pricey, the Wantan Noodles has generous fillings and has very little MSG, unlike the wantan noodles elsewhere. For RM 5.30, it can easily fill your empty stomach and make you feel bloated. You can always order the smaller plate for RM 4.30, but mind you, the fillings are not as generous as you get by paying the extra one buck.

Koon Kee's Har Kow (Prawn Dumplings)
Koon Kee’s Har Kow (Prawn Dumplings)

The Har Kow (Prawn Dumplings) is quite filling as well and is delicious though there are better ones somewhere out there.

Perhaps, Koon Kee has lost its glory day and for now, it is more suitable to be labeled as a tourist attraction rather than an eatery for the local.

Price

  • Wantan Noodle (Big) – RM 5.30
  • Wantan Noodle (Small) – RM 4.30
  • Har Kow Soup – RM 5.00

Fusion Thai Food – Rama 9, Signature Food Court @ Suria KLCC

Rama 9 which has extended its fusion Thai food to Pavilion KL also has a stall in Suria KLCC.

Rama 9's Chicken Cashew Rice
Rama 9′s Chicken Cashew Rice

Chicken Cashew Rice has nice offering in terms of the chicken and the cashew nuts. However, the rice seemed too hard, maybe slightly overcooked.

Its Green Curry Chicken Spaghetti offered at Pavilion KL is not too bad, but don’t bother to try Chicken Cashew Rice unless there are no other food available.

Kiwi Fresh Fruit Ice Cream is however, slightly sour and unless you are a big fan of kiwi fruit, you may want to choose other flavors such as mango or strawberry instead. After all, there are about 16 types to choose from.

Right in the ground floor of Kompleks Antarabangsa, just besides Pakcik Cafe is Restoran Q Thai which serve affordable Thai food for lunch.

Q Thai's Thai Fried Rice with Beef
Q Thai’s Thai Fried Rice with Beef

Thai Fried Rice with Beef is disappointing lacking the real taste since it is not spicy at all and does not even have eggs, how can it even qualifies as Thai Fried Rice in the first place?

Q Thai's Mine Chicken with Mint Leaf Rice
Q Thai’s Mine Chicken with Mint Leaf Rice

Mine Chicken with Mint Leaf Rice fares better than the fried rice as the Mine Chicken is abundant and the Mint Leaf makes the entire dish more fragrant.

Q Thai's Tom Yam Soup
Q Thai’s Tom Yam Soup

Tom Yam Soup is a blast as it has adequate spicy and sour flavors that most Tom Yam soups nowadays lack. In fact, it is the best dishes of them all.

Q Thai's Iced Lemon Tea (Cold) and White Coffee (Cold)

Chinta's Chicken Rice
Chinta’s Chicken Rice

The Chicken Rice tastes horrible as the chicken is not fresh like those you get elsewhere. Nothing beats NZ’s Chicken Rice.

Chinta's Dry Curry Noodle

Dry Curry Noodle is at least, not as horrible. In fact, it tastes pretty good, much to my surprise. The curry chickens are also abundant.

M&M’s Peanut Butter Candies

M&M’s Peanut Butter candies are finally here in Malaysia! Have you tried ‘em yet?

After introducing "Dark Chocolate" in Malaysia not too long ago, finally the long-awaited Peanut Butter flavor is here.

M&M's Peanut Butter Candies
M&M’s Peanut Butter Candies

Is it tasty? Yes, you bet!

Made of soft, real peanut butter cream centers surrounded by milk chocolate inside colorful sugar shells, M&M’s Peanut Butter Candies is delicious! It’s even better than Reese’s “Peanut Butter” Pieces, the M&M’s look-alike.

Currently available at limited locations only.

Mee Siam & Lonton – Toast Box, Food Republic @ Pavilion KL

Toast Box is a kopitiam comparable to the likes of Daily Express, Hometown Kopitiam and Kluang Station. After the success of Toast Box in Mid Valley, which is owned by BreadTalk, a Singapore-based bakery, Toast Box branches out in Pavilion KL as well.

Toast Box @ Pavilion KL
Toast Box @ Pavilion KL

Toast Box @ Pavilion KL looks better than the one in Mid Valley Megamall but it’s located within the crowded food court, Food Republic.

Toast Box's Mee Siam Soup
Toast Box’s Mee Siam Soup

Mee Siam Soup is quite up to the par except of course, it’s in soup. Despite that, it still tastes better than Kluang Station’s Mee Siam.
